Excessive Sweating
Many patients tell us that they suffer from excessive sweating, whether from their hands, feet, or underarms. Excessive sweating is called hyperhidrosis. It not only leaves the affected areas constantly wet and uncomfortable, but often leaves the patient with considerable social anxiety.
Botox, or Botulinum toxin A, is licensed in the UK for treating localised excessive sweating.
HOW CAN HYPERHIDROSIS BE TREATED?
Hyperhidrosis can be treated with Botox, the treatment that softens facial lines and wrinkles. In the case of excessive sweating, the Botox is injected directly under the surface of the skin, where the sweat glands are found. It works by blocking the nerve impulses that lead to the sweat glands. By blocking these nerve impulses, it interrupts the chemical messenger that tells the body to produce sweat in that particular area.
WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
The most common area that is treated for hyperhidrosis is under the arms, but we also treat the hands, the feet, the face, and the pubic region.
WHAT WILL THE RESULTS BE LIKE?
The results are amazing, and many of our patients describe them as “life-changing”. The improvement can be as great as 80 to 100 percent.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR THIS PROCEDURE?
This treatment is suitable for men or women who suffer from excessive sweating, especially patients who have tried strong antiperspirants, topical treatments, or medications with no success.
Whether you want to feel fresh at your business meeting, have a formal event coming up, or simply find heat and the summer season unbearable, this non-invasive and simple treatment can work wonders for your life and your confidence.
HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?
The results will last between six to twelve months. However some of our patients have reported that the frequency with which they require "top-up" procedures decreases over time.
The answer is yes. Botox is a protein derived from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum, and has undergone a proven safe and highly effective purification process. It is organic and demonstrably safe.
It has been in use for over thirty years in different areas of medicine, including neurology and ophthalmology without large amounts of serious side effects.
The most important thing to remember is that this treatment is non-permanent and safe. The Botox is metabolised at the injection site and it does not spread to any other parts of the body.
IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?
IS THE TREATMENT FDA APPROVED?
Yes, in 2004, the FDA approved Botox for the treatment of localised hyperhidrosis. More than twenty countries have now approved Botox for the treatment of hyperhidrosis in the underarms.
ARE THERE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?
Side effects that may occur include redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site.
When treating the hands, there is a slight (yet insignificant) risk of local muscle weakness for short periods of time.
